Content Warning: mentions of cannibalism and sex slavery.

This will be a mix of a rewatch and first time watch. I have seen episodes of this before when I was much younger but it was always on at like 2am and my memories are extremely vague so this’ll be largely new.

As I’m typing this I’ve watched the first 2 episodes and am migrating my thoughts from discord to here. The first season of Lexx is 4 90 minute movies basically, then after that it switches to a half hour long show with a full season of episodes. My understanding is that the show will recast a bit and change wildly in tone at parts so that should be interesting. My current plan is to do a post for each of the 90 minute movies and then the later posts will have a varying amount of episodes depending on what I have to say. One thing I started doing with the Cleopatra 2525 rewatch was “Outfit of the episode”, it wasn’t every episode but there were some very interesting outfits that I shared and wanted to highlight. That is most likely going to continue here because there’s already been some doozies.

I also want to add a content warning, these episodes deal with topics related to rape. I’ve yet to outright see an actual depiction of it but it gets a bit uncomfortable. So I’m going to try to be delicate with it and there may come a point where I decide that I’m not continuing the series. We’ll see.

Lexx Episode 1:

The base setting is a space dystopia where people are harshly punished for basically anything and those punishments include organ harvesting, execution and being converted into sex slaves.

A cloaked figure walks around 2 others that are kneeling on all fours on the floor. Other stand in the background. Everyone is wearing head to to black leather.
I guess it’s bring your pet to work day?

The leader of the empire is named His Divine Shadow and he is a being that passes from host to host as they get used up. The brains of the previous hosts are removed and kept alive to power the current host and seem to grant him shadow energy powers.

2 rows of pods facing each other. Each pod contains a red glowing brain.
Yup, totally normal, nothing to see here.

There’s a prophecy that the shadow will be destroyed by a member of a dead people called the Brunnen-G. They are technically extinct except that one of them was kept on ice to act as a sort of Winter Soldier. Kai, is dead but kept ambulatory by something called protoblood. We see in the show that he can be cut into pieces and put back together just fine.

a man dressed all in black with a large bouffant hairdo with a ponytail dangling down over his face.
Best looking zombie I’ve seen lately.

The reason that prophecy exists in this universe is that apparently the entire universe is one big time loop and prophets are actually looking into the past.

We start on what seems to be a normal day for our protagonist Stanley Tweedle. Stanley is an inept security guard who works in a processing center. Apparently he’s famous for being a traitor to the resistance but it wasn’t really his fault. He’s been kept alive in case the empire wants more information from him. However his job performance is so poor he’s been sent for punishment and either he shows up to have 1-3 organs removed or he’ll be hunted and executed. He decides to show up for the removal but is too late and has to run.

A man with a sad expression on his face. He's wearing a red jumpsuit and a matching red cap with the number 4 on it.
That’s the expression of someone who knows he’s fucked.

We also meet Zev Bellringer (later will be renamed Xev and that’s what I’ll use going forward) (also, don’t google Xev Bellringer as that name is now being used by an adult filmstar, or do, it’s your choice), a prisoner locked up for not fulfilling her ‘wifely duties’ *sighs* and she’s to be made into a sex slave *larger sigh*. She’s put into a machine to make her hot but it goes awry and some space lizard DNA gets in there as well.

A women getting up from a table where she was strapped down. She's wearing a blue ruffle dress with some black leather straps. She has blue hair and is wearing a blue wedding veil.
I am not making a joke given the context of this picture.

She escapes but not before removing the head of a robot and having the sex slave programming partially downloaded into it giving us 790 the talking head that’s obsessed with Xev (and hates Stanley).

A severed plastic head sitting on a table. The head is a bulbous shape and has big exaggerated circles where the eyes and mouth would be. The eyes and mouth each have a tiny screen in them currently showing squinting eyes and a closed mouth.
It’s like a robot Stewie Griffin.

Meanwhile events there’s a prisoner whose name I forget that is about to be judged and executed but instead has a small robot crawl out of his nose, turn into a drone and fly around and hack the AI judicial system. He escapes and attempts a rebellion but gets killed by Kai.

During the attempted rebellion Stan, Xev and 790 oops their way onto The Lexx. The Lexx is a sentient organic spaceship shaped like a giant dragonfly. It’s the Shadow’s most powerful ship and can destroy planets. At the time of it being stolen it’s housing the brains of the previous Divine Shadow hosts. (The Divine Shadow made some stupid decisions in an effort to prove prophecy wrong.)

During their escape on the Lexx Stan and Xev are attacked by Kai. However Kai encounters the brain room (oh they can talk by the way) and manages to recover his memories of his true past and how he’s supposed to destroy the Shadow. The Shadow shows up to destroy his rebellious assassin but is defeated when Stan and Xev start smashing the brains he draws power from.

To escape the ships pursuing them they enter a black hole and emerge in another universe. The ships do follow them but the journey erased parts of Lexx’s memory so that he can now attack Shadow ships and wipes them out. The episode ends with them putting Kai back on ice because his protoblood will only work for so long and deciding to try and find a home. Meanwhile the Shadow reforms back in the first universe promising revenge.

That’s quite an episode, it definitely lets you know you’re in for a weird time and introduces all the characters pretty well. This is very much a ‘buckle up for some weird shit’ kinda show.

Oh and before I go here’s Outfit of the Episode:

A man wearing a kilt made of little metal tiles that make a gradient of purple to red, a brown vest with matching knee high boots and a medallion that is actually several medallions dangling beneath each other all the way down to his belt.
People I give you the future mayor of New York City (Spin City)

This is the prisoner with the nose robot that tried and failed to stage a rebellion. The kilt is silly enough but what pushes him over the edge into winning is that medallion chain all the way down to his crotch.
